NORTHBRIDGE, W.A. – Paper Mountain is pleased to present “Let’s Go, Magic Weirdos” a group exhibition featuring contemporary artists from 5 continents, curated by Sean Morris.
Please join us for the exhibition opening on Thursday October 25, 2012 from 6pm-9pm, at Paper Mountain: 267 William Street, Northbridge WA.
Perth artist Sean Morris has assembled a selection of 23 of his contemporaries from around the world; to take part in one of the most exciting group shows held in Western Australia in recent years. “Let’s Go, Magic Weirdos” sets out to harness, cage and present to the city a collection of exciting new work unleashed by crazed and beating minds from across the globe.
While the work of the “Magic Weirdos” encompasses a range of artistic styles, each artist involved shares what Morris calls a “defiant, fearless approach to art making.” Regardless of physical location; together they inhabit a world where rules are made for breaking, and the paradox of conventional art is thrown out of the window.
The line-up includes Melbourne folk-art legend Ghostpatrol, prolific New York-based street artists Sheryo and The Yok, London illustrators Stevie Gee, Jon Boam and James Unsworth, LA skate artists Michael C.Hsiung and Eric McHenry, New York comics renegade John Malta, Indonesian punk-rock illustrators Ican Harem and Ryan Ady Putra, and Perth’s finest all-rounder Kyle Hughes-Odgers.
New work by these phenomenal names will sit alongside the creations of Australian illustrators Mel Stringer, Eveline Tarunadjaja & Evie Cahir, the sci-fi influenced artwork of Madrid’s Manuel Donada, beautifully strange drawings from Brazil’s Mariana Moyses and California’s Ambird, paintings by North-Carolina native Luke Pelletier, and contributions from young local talents Yohyo, Cheeks and Calliope Bridge. Finally, there will be new works from the mind behind this madness, Sean Morris.
This show is sitting on the precipice of an art movement ready to explode. Come down to Perth’s newest and most exciting artist run gallery, located in the heart of Northbridge, to pick yourself up a piece of work while you can. Take a breath, grab a drink, and step into the world of the artistic rule-breaker, the rebel, the weirdo.
Let’s Go, Magic Weirdos!
