Openings: Kingbrown Issue 10 Melbourne launch

The new issue of the mighty Kingbrown Magazine finally drops this Friday night with a launch party in Melbourne. Looks like Issue 10 is definitely worth the wait, with a killer set of features co-curated by Black Canyon Projects (Sean Morris and Tom Groves). The Black Canyon boys have organised an equally impressive list for the launch show, with artists from Australia, Singapore, England, Mexico, Spain, Germany, Indonesia, Italy and The USA, working on paper and painted denim vests.

The issue itself features the likes of Skinner, Neckface, Hellen Jo, Saner, Michael C Hsiung and Lugosis – with brown bag art by Future Colors of America, embossed cover by Brendan Monroe, foldout neon poster by Malarko, diecut vinyl sticker by Sheryo, and a glow in the dark patch by Stevie Gee. Be among the first to grab a copy, from 6pm this Friday at Spares in Collingwood. Kingbrown640

Photos : Daek William 2014 complete.

West Australian artist Daek William sent us a selection of treats that wrapped up his 2014 year, included a kooky video of his travels over a year, a selection of new artworks that encompasses the love for a fine pair of footwear and some of the larger scale works we are use to seeing by the beach town based artist.

Wonderwalls Port Adelaide 2015

Wonderwalls Port Adelaide 2015

International street artists Sainer and Bezt of Etam Cru (Poland), Askew One and Elliot Francis Stewart (NZ) will headline a stellar line-up of local, national and international artists who will transform Port Adelaide into a giant, interactive canvas as part of the Wonderwalls festival in January.

Presented by Renewal SA and The Hours, together with City of Port Adelaide Enfield and Ironlak, Wonderwalls the free three day street art festival will run from January 23rd-25th with large scale murals, artist talks and entertainment.

The festival kicks off on Friday night with an official launch party at the recently upgraded Flour Shed at Hart’s Mill. The free event includes live mural painting, guest DJ’s and food trucks and provides an opportunity for festival-goers to meet the artists and purchase exhibition works.

On Saturday, budding photographers can bring their cameras and join one of the two free Canon photo tours to learn professional tips on how to capture the creation of the large scale murals amongst Port Adelaide’s festival atmosphere, followed by a laneway street party on Saturday night which will feature food and drink offerings from local traders Mayfair Bakery and Red Lime Shack.

Artist talks, an art exhibition in the Flour Shed and a walking tour with Verb Syndicate, are presented across the weekend as the large scale works take shape.

All events are free to attend.

Video: Roach and Numskull two cities, one wall

Roachi and Numskull, together with Puma created a unique mural over two cities. One half was painted in New York City, the other half in Sydney, Australia. Filmed by Paste Studios, this short video documents the brother duo as they paint a wall together on different sides of the world.
