Also this Thursday night in Sydney, Numskull is opening his show “Mixed Messages” at Kind Of Gallery, Surry Hills. This new body of work has taken Numskull into a new direction, with more detail, more focus on typography and a step forward in technique as he slowly weens out the use of some of his old methods. Every single piece of art in this show is hand-made by the artist. From the fonts, the frames, the sculptures and more… Check out some photos from a recent trip to his Annandale studio and also a newly released video called “Dance like a video, sting like a Gif”.

This Thursday night in Brisbane, local Sydney artists Max Berry and Mark Alsweiler open their show “All Things Lost” at Nine Lives Gallery, Fortitude Valley. From what they showed us at their studio, this show is set to be an amazing showcase of their individual styles and passion for hand-built sculpture. Check out some preview shots taken at their studio in Annandale.

Sneak peek: Max Berry and Ears at Harrison Galleries

In the lead up to their duo show at Harrison Galleries this weekend, Max Berry and Ears let us inside their studio for a look at what’s in stall for the opening this Saturday. Long time collaborators and friends, these two artists have produced bodies of work that compliment each other and show the next step they’ve both taken in their artistic careers.

Max’s show titled “Passenger” presents a series of paintings, jewelry and toys that reveals an imaginary world in flux. Caught in moments of introverted retrospection and transcendence Berry’s figures consider the relationship between, the actual and the spiritual, agency and fate, life and death, and the passage between these states.

Ears’ show title “The Grid” investigates and deconstructs the formalist approach to portrait painting. With a background in graffiti Ears has been making a transition to studio artist that has allowed for an engaging body of large canvas works. ‘The Grid” is a study of the uniform, identity and the conditions in which they exist.

Bennett’s solo show “Oranges & Lemons” opens at Oh Really Gallery this Thursday May 19th, and it looks like it’s going to be a killer body of work. The man himself sent us through a few sneaky preview shots of the work he will be displaying at the show. He’s really stepped up with this latest collection of paintings, which he has poured his love of stencils, posters, and bold colours into. Check out the photos and a process video below.

Microcosm sneak peek

Tomorrow night is the opening of “Microcosm” at Lo-Fi Collective in Sydney. A group show of new work and installations by Beastman, Phibs, Max Berry & Creepy. The foursome will be showing a new set of limited edition prints, wood installations and a giant wall painting that is sure to be a cracker.

We dropped by their studio to get some sneaky pics of the work and even got sent some progress shots of the wall. Have a squiz at some brand new work from Sydney (and Perth’s) finest.
