Opening: ‘Spitting in the Urinal’ by Marcus Dixon at Good Space – Sydney

Marcus Dixon

Marcus Dixon’s work is the perfect blend of classic Australian iconography and contemporary skate/street culture. It breaks down the wall that separates the regional and the metropolitan. Marcus speaks the language of both; he’s cosmopolitan.

Fifteen years ago, at the height of Australia’s obsession with American streetwear, the only crocodile you’d see on a skateboarder’s outfit would have been on a Lacoste polo shirt.

Marcus is at the forefront of the new guard; A wave of young Australian artists and designers that have reclaimed Australiana for the next generation.

This, his second solo show, is based around a new series of large format illustrations, screen print editions and modern memorabilia.

Opening: Prickly by Sha’an d’Anthes (Furry Little Peach) at Good Space – Sydney

This collection pays tribute to those who personify the cactus – by embodying strength vibrancy, sharpness & resilience – and who aren’t afraid of being a little.. Prickly.

Above all the show is meant to be a lot of fun. In this show the artist moves away from animals and people, and moves towards a plant-oriented body of work, focusing solely on the audiences reactions to colour and texture. Prickly evokes feelings of nostalgia, stimulates the imagination and continues her use of ‘Childhood’ as a theme.

Opening: ‘Savoir Faire’ by Scott Marsh at Good Space – Sydney

This new colourful series by Scott Marsh looks at exploring the growing cross over between graffiti and high art. Marsh drew inspiration from Manet’s ‘Luncheon on the Grass’ and ‘Olympia’. Presenting 20 new works, Marsh pairs the raw energy, and fluid precision of contemporary street culture with the classical notion of the female nude.

The women depicted in Marsh’s paintings, emulate the gaze of Manet’s Olympia; brazenly staring at the viewer. Marsh utilises this comparison to question the acceptance of graffiti techniques within the fine art world. Marsh layers elements of impressionism and pop art with the palette and uses scale techniques associated with graffiti.
