Photos: HIROYASU TSURI ‘Outsiders’ at Backwoods Gallery – Melbourne

Hiroyasu Tsuri, aka TWOONE recently opened his solo show ‘Outsiders’ at Backwoods Gallery in Melbourne. An epic body of work which focussed on his technique of backlit reverse paintings and hand made sculptures. As always, a beautiful but simple body of work from the artist, who is now based in Berlin.

Opening: ‘A Study of Eyes’ at Backwoods Gallery – Melbourne

Backwoods is hosting a group show of epic proportions (no pun intended). ‘A study of eyes’ sees the gallery group together some of the world’s best to examine the eye. If the last group show ‘A study of Hands’ is anything to go by, we recommend getting down to see this show. With a lineup like this, it’s bound to be amazing.

TwoOne Live Paint and Butoh at Backwoods.

Allot of people were flipped out by Fridays Butoh performance, so Sunday we’ll be trying something different at Backwoods.

Hiroyasu will be live painting along side Shiro Murakoshi at the gallery, starting 5pm.

It could be totally fucked up, it could be total magic, or both. We’ll see Sunday.

Opening: Two One “Define Nothing” at Backwoods Gallery – Melbourne

Hiroyasu Tsuri, also known as Two One, is set to open his next solo show at Backwoods Gallery in Melbourne. As always, Hiro will deliver a collection of fast paced and expressive animal cross human portraits and landscapes. Something he has become reknown for both inside galleries and outside on small to large scale walls.

In July, Hiroyasu will return to Backwoods Gallery with “Define Nothing”, a expansive collection of philosophical contemplations presented through sculpture and works on paper.

Hey spungoz, Hamishi here. It’s my first day @ #theopeninghours thought I’d celebrate by curating an exciting show in Melbourne on the grey area between high + lowbrow art and the relevance of lowbrow art in a contemporary discussion.

Please join us for opening celebrations on the 27th of September at 6pm.

Curated by Hamishi

Where is the middle ground between high and lowbrow art in Australia’s regressive commercial contemporary art scene? “Sup Brow?” is an exhibition presenting an informed discussion on the relevance of “Juxtapoz Art” in contemporary art and the border between Lowbrow and Mainstream Australian painting through the lens of Australian and international painters, illustrators and mixed practice artists.
