Opening: ‘NEVERMIND’ by John Kaye at Goodspace, Sydney

John Kaye will present 50 new, unseen works for his latest series ‘Nevermind‘ on Monday 6th July at Goodspace gallery, Sydney.

By examining the Medieval Latin theory, memento mori under a new light, Nevermind showcases a representation of freedom and the forthcoming uncertainty of the future.

Transposing his experiences gained from living as a traveller into a series of souvenir style images, each new work represents a moment in time, reflecting on past encounters and escapades.

Working with acrylic, watercolour, aerosol and ink, John Kaye combines elements of his early graffiti and street influence with modern style characters and creative colour schemes.

In conjunction with the Nevermind exhibition, John Kaye will release a limited edition run of 150 unseen zines, each featuring a collection of illustrations and photography from his recent travels.

The zine will be available exclusively at Goodspace gallery for the duration on the Nevermind exhibition.

Nevermind is open for viewing 2PM – 4PM Monday 6th July and 1PM – 4PM Tuesday 7th July as well as a night of celebratory drinks on Wednesday 8th July from 6PM at Goodspace gallery, located at Level 11, 115 Regent Street, Chippendale, NSW.

Opening: Versus – No Comply Gallery

Landing a bunch of big name national artists for the line up of their newest showcase, ‘Versus‘, quaint Toowoomba art space, No Comply gallery have again proved to be on the pulse of the visual art industry.

Housed in Kontraband Studios, a graffiti store / screen-printing and sign writing space, No Comply will soon launch a group exhibition set to spur nostalgia from gamers and creatives alike.

Featuring 16 Australian artists and their response to the theme of video games, the showcase plays on the iconopgraphy of the home consoles and coin operated arcades games of the yesteryear, celebrating all that is grand about an 8-64 bit, square-eyed reality.

Of the 16 artists, Versus will display an impressive scope of work from the forefront of Australian contemporary art with Ghost Patrol, Gimiks Born, John Kaye, Sean Morris and Shida all gracing the gallery space. Check out the full-list of featured artists here.

Don’t miss the official opening on Friday 13th March from 7-9pm at 6 Laurel St, Toowoomba, (RSVP: here).

As well as the unveiling of the unseen artworks, the launch also promises beer, dumplings and vintage arcade games – Ya, Wa, Wahooo!

Opening: Benjamin Reeve ‘Ornament’ Exibition – Toowomba

Prevalent and celebrated street artist Benjamin Reeve launches his solo exhibition, ‘Ornament’ tomorrow at Toowoomba’s newest artist run creative space, ‘No Comply’ Gallery.

Exploring the nostalgia of childhood, ‘Ornament’ plays on the hallowed and harrowing memories of youth. Using spray enamel, inks, oil and acrylic paint, Reeve creates powerful portraits on paper and wood. Each unique piece, representing a mirrored snapshot of self-inquiry.

The official launch opens Friday 24th October from 7pm – 9pm with the works hanging until 15th November.

Well worth the 1.5 hour trek (from Brisbane), Toowoomba has plenty to offer this weekend. Make the most of the journey and stick around for Kontraband Studios first birthday party on Sunday to see live painting from a number of artists including Brisbane’s own Reals and John Kaye and Perth’s Ayres.

As Ayres is making the long winded journey from the other side of Australia to catch Benjamin Reeve and party with the Kontraband kids, we think you should too.

Where ever across our great nation you are tomorrow, Tbar is the place to be.
