Photos: No Vacancy 5 year anniversary

In the low brow art world, some galleries stay, some go, some linger and grow old, but there’s one gallery in Melbourne that has stayed true and has always been at the forefront of the Melbourne gallery circuit. That’s No Vacancy.

The gallery, who’s main space is in the heart of the city, and also has two satellite spaces, has recently just celebrated their 5th birthday!

Featuring a stellar line up that was Meggs, Ghostpatrol, Ben Frost, Miso, Two One, Nior, Beastman, Makatron, Tom Vincent, Jasper Wong, Max Berry, Numskull, Adnate, Sheryo, Nails, Stephen Ives, Luke Lucas, and many many more (too many for me to re-type)… the show was packed full of both recent work and un seen old work that the artists contributed to a killer show. For us, we think there needs to be more of these group shows. Big celebrations of what’s happening right now in the young art world.

Thanks to the NV team for sending over the great photos (taken by Caitlin Muscat). Click below for the full set (there are ALOT of photos)…

Opening: Nior “Outside Assembly” at No Vacancy – Melbourne

“Outside Assembly” is the latest collection of work to come from one our favourite Melbourne artists, Nior. As always, Nior’s work is both pleasant to look at and interesting to ponder on. Read more below.

No-Vacancy gallery presents a new series of paintings and sculptures by Melbourne artist Robert Bowers, also known as Nior. In his new body of work, Nior continues his mark makings of the wild world. Balancing forces of chaos and inclinations toward order in the animal kingdom. Cropped insights into the group behaviour of vast groups, herds and colonies are a major focus in this new display.

No Vacancy 5th Birthday Exhibition

Looks like tonight in Melbourne is going to be super busy. Tonight marks the night of our friends No Vancancy’s 5th birthday, one of Melbourne’s long time iconic independent galleries.

I’m not going to name all of the artists, or spotlight any heavyweights, because they’re ALL big names. Also look out for a series of animations and videos being screened at Fed Square to celebrate!!!

If you’re in Melbourne, don’t miss this.

Sneak Peek: Cat-Rabbit & Seven Seas at No Vacancy – Melbourne

After seeing their recent show in Sydney, we were excited to hear that the duo are prepping for their next show in Melbourne at No Vacancy. Cat Rabbit & The Seven Seas went to Tokyo for 2 weeks in Winter, 2012. They still think about it all the time. Ai-Ai Gasa is an exhibition of collaborative and individual works including soft sculpture, embroidery, painting and installation reflecting their two week stint in an amazing city.
