We are excited to hear that Project 5 is back once again in Sydney this September….
What started as an experimental foray into public art that sought to lift the veil on the elusive practice of graffiti has since exploded into an award-winning staple of Sydney’s annual cultural calendar. This year, we will see international artists Vans the Omega, Apeseven, Fintan Magee and Gemma O’Brien transform Darling Quarter’s Village Green into an open-air art studio that challenges the permeable borders of urban contemporary art.

Where: The Darling Quarter, Sydney
Opening: Friday 18th September
The team at Ambush Gallery recently brought together a great mix of artists for another round of Project 5. A yearly art project, which features Australian and International artist painting both live and in their studios, for an outdoor exhibit which eventually produces artwork to go to auction in aid of charity. A great concept, and a great way to have artists from outside of Sydney come to town and show new work.
Check out the video recap featuring Askew One, Kyle Hughes-Odgers, 23rd Key and Alex LeHours.
Featuring the work of celebrated contemporary Australian and New Zealand street artists Askew One, Kyle Hughes-Odgers, Alex Lehours and 23rd Key, Project Five Volume Six will transform Darling Quarter’s Village Green into a free open air studio as the artists paint before a live audience. The live painting weekend launches on Friday 26 September from 6-9pm and continues on Saturday 27 and Sunday 28 from 12-3pm. The opening night is complimented by the electronic musical ambience created by Sydney-based artist EARS, with DJ Ray Ray behind the decks over the weekend.

Project 5 recently took over the Darling Quarter in Sydney with artists Adnate, Jodee Knowles, Numskull and Rone.
The four artists painted live in front of spectators, locals and tourists. Certainly a massive change to creating work inside the studio, but something they all agreed was an interesting process to experience, and especially when the proceeds go to such a great cause like ICE.
Ambush Gallery has created a nice short video featuring the opening, painting days and even some rare short interviews with the artists.
“In a first for Project Five since its inception in 2009, Volume Five will also feature a month long free public art exhibition in aMBUSH Gallery and Darling Quarter’s popup exhibition space OPEN, located in the precinct’s Civic Connector. The exhibition, which opens on 20 September and continues until 20 October, will feature sixteen original large-scale artworks created by the Project Five feature artists.”

Project 5 is back again, and this time it’s grown into a multi faceted event that has become feature event for Art & About, Sydney’s annual outdoor art festival.
“With a portfolio of four volumes, sixteen commissioned Australian artists and over $52,000 raised for charity, Project Five is back with Volume Five, featuring Adnate (VIC), Jodee Knowles (WA/NSW), Numskull (NSW) and Rone (VIC).
Join aMBUSH Gallery as it ushers Project Five Volume Five into its new home in burgeoning creative hub Darling Quarter with a three-day live painting event on Darling Quarter’s Village Green. The four featured artists will transform Darling Quarter into an open-air studio from 6-9pm on Friday 27 September as they paint before their public audience, and will continue from 12-4pm on Saturday 28 and Sunday 29 September.
Over four weeks, Project Five will present a series of art events, including an exhibition of works by the featured artists at OPEN – aMBUSH Gallery and Darling Quarter’s free public art space, a series of free kids’ urban art clinics facilitated by World Famous Westsyde, and an invitation-only auction of the works created during the live painting weekend. All proceeds from the auction are dedicated to the development of the Information and Cultural Exchange’s (ICE) youth arts program. Over the course of Project Five’s previous four volumes, ICE has benefitted in over $52,000 in proceeds from the auctions, an achievement of Project Five that was recognised in the 2011 National AbaF Awards.
Please visit www.project5.com.au for further details, and keep an eye out for the Project Five Volume Five dedicated tabloid. ”
We’ve always supported what the aMBUSH team have done with Project 5. A live group art show of four Australian artists in which final artwork is auctioned off and 100% of the profit goes to ICE.
This year is the FOURTH installment and features a killer lineup of Australian street artists. REKA (from Melbourne), ELK (originally from Canberra), HAHA (from Melbourne) and last not definitely not least VEXTA (from Melbourne/Sydney). Stay tuned for photos and updates of the many events on the schedule.
