Opening: Thursday – DMOTE, Will Lynes & Nathan Pickering in MELBOURNE

Tomorrow night in Melbourne, ‘Full Serve’ featuring new work by Dmote, Will Lynes and Nathan Pickering opens at the RVCA Corner Gallery in Collingwood.

A long while between drinks, Dmote’s new works reference more of his bright graffiti character styles than the intricate detailed works he is known for. The works, including a replica shop front, are on show traditional sign painters Will and Nathan from Lynes & Co.

Head along if you’re in town, it’ll be one not to miss. Sydney, your turn later this month.

Sneak peek: ‘Full Serve’ – DMOTE, Will Lynes & Nathan Pickering

It’s been a good while since Australian graffiti icon Dmote has shown a significant body of work in exhibition. The last ten or so years he has been living and working in America, continuing to paint both outdoors and in the studio. These days, Dmote resides in New York, but frequently travels the globe as part of RVCA’s Artist Network Program working to expand the program and source new talent.

With the opening of RVCA’s two new project galleries in Melbourne and Sydney, he is finally keen to exhibit new paintings alongside the insanely talented sign painters Will Lynes & Nathan Pickering of Lynes & Co The exhibition opens March 6th in Melbourne at the Corner Gallery in Collingwood before touring to Sydney to open at the Downstairs Gallery in Paddington on March 27th.

Note: A conversation with Will & Nathan, plus previews of their work will be online in the next few days.

Video: Sign Painters Movie – painted by Will Lynes & Co

In the lead up to the screening of the ‘Sign Painters Movie’ at Lo-Fi Collective, the Lo-Fi team got together with local Sydney Sign Painters Lynes & Co to create a unique mural at the venue.

“Lo-Fi Collective in collaboration with ID/Lab, Sumo Visual Group are bringing the Sign Painters Movie to Sydney. The Sign Painters Movie directed by Faythe Levine and Sam Macon is an 80 minute documentary movie about the dedicated practitioners, their time honored methods, and their appreciation for quality and craftsmanship. Sign Painters, the first anecdotal history of the craft, features the stories of more than two dozen sign painters working in cities throughout the United States.”

Kingbrown Issue 9

What is a Kingbrown?

Kingbrown is West Australian slang for a longneck beer – a 40oz. Wrapped in a brown bag, just like a good 40 should.

Sitting somewhere between a book, a magazine and an art zine, Kingbrown is a super limited edition periodical. Each issue is handcrafted, delivered inside a silk screened brown bag which is designed and curated by some of the world’s leading innovators of photography, illustration and urban and skateboard art and design.

Inside Kingbrown you will find profiles and interviews that take you on a twisted journey inside the studios and minds of some of our very talented friends, with the aim of keeping you inspired and connected to the subcultures we love most. Printed with quality in mind, each page is a collectable item, individually sealed and packaged. Now in its 8th edition, Kingbrown has achieved worldwide success and is now launching for the first time in the US.

In this issue

Wrapped in a double sided brown bag with artwork by Ed Templeton & UNGA (Broken Fingaz), together with a cool outdoor vinyl sticker by Dabs Myla, and a Kingbrown x Ironlak stubby holder, featuring great interviews and studio insights with Nychos, Dabs Myla, Huskmitnavn, Ghostpatrol, Vans the Omega, Ed Templeton, Unga, Numskull, Roach, Ozzie Wright, and heaps more. Yep, told you it’s rad.
